The final game of the regular season. Nothing to play for. With both New York and Buffalo eliminated from playoff contention, these 2 teams were playing for pride. The Bills had just fired their head coach Rex Ryan after a disappointing 7-8 start to the 2016 season. The Jets coach Todd Bowles is on the hot seat after leading his team to a 10-6 record in 2015 and starting 4-11 in 2016. How did the 2nd matchup between these division rivals turn out?

1st Quarter

E.J. Manuel continues to show that he is a 1st round bust for the Bills. The quarterback was almost intercepted inside his own 20 yard line by defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson who had dropped into zone coverage. Buffalo escaped a near disaster.

2nd Quarter

Ryan Fitzpatrick got aggressive to begin the drive, throwing a deep pass on 1st down and 10 from the Jets 25 yard line, hooking up with receiver Quincy Enunwa at Buffalo’s 24 yard line, an unbelievable gain of 51 yards. A few plays later, on 2nd down and goal on the Bills 3 yard line, the Jets QB threw to running back Bilal Powell for the TD, capping a drive of 7 plays and 75 yards in 4 minutes and 34 seconds. Gang Green led at halftime 10-3.

3rd Quarter

E.J. Manuel fumbled the football after getting sacked by linebacker Corey Lemonier, which was recovered at the Buffalo 13 yard line by rookie LB Jordan Jenkins. On 3rd down and 3 on the Bills 6 yard line, rookie Jets WR Jalen Marshall stretched over the endzone for the TD, giving New York a 17-3 lead.

4th Quarter

Cornerback Darrelle Revis got his 1st interception of 2016 from a tipped pass of safety Calvin Pryor, picking off rookie QB Cardale Jones at midfield on 3rd down and 4. Revis returned the INT 51 yards to the Bills 3 yard line, where the Jets converted the turnover into a Nick Folk field goal. On the ensuing kickoff, Doug Middleton from New York recovered the football in the endzone for a TD after Buffalo’s RB Mike Gillislee didn’t jump on the ball bouncing on the ground, resulting in NY going up 30-3. After Darrelle gave up a big play to WR Jeremy Butler on the next possession, Gillislee ran up the middle on 3rd down and goal for a 1 yard score, which was too little, too late.

The Jets did not have to do much as Buffalo continuously shot themselves in the foot, giving Gang Green great field position and opportunities to score. New York capitalized on the turnovers and pulled away from the Bills in the scoreboard. In a battle between 2 teams with losing records, the Jets came out on top to end the season at 5-11.
